Dear Race Organiser
The Road Running Leadership Group was created and appointed by UKA over two years ago to manage and develop the sport of Road Running within the UK. Its members include both elected representatives and appointed experts.
The group’s achievements so far include the restructure of the “Permit Scheme” which has meant that most races pay less than before while maintaining the £2 discounted entry fee to Road Races for all Club members affiliated to their Regional Body (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
The Group is delighted to announce a number of new initiatives which were launched this year:
1. The Group was renamed “Run Britain”
2. A new website that covers all aspects of Road Running has been launched. Sponsored by realbuzz.com, the website can be found at: www.realbuzzrunbritain.com
3. We have created a Race Directors Portal (RDP) which is full of useful information for Race Organisers. http://www.realbuzzrunbritain.com/rdp/
Included in the RDP is information about Working with Authorities, Recruiting Volunteers, A Race Organisers Guide, How to successfully market your event and medical issues. We are hoping this section becomes interactive so organisers can communicate and help each-other in the future.
4. We have launched an online licence application function to the site where organisers can apply online and in shorter time for a UKA licence. When an organiser seeks a licence and the County Licensing Officer grants approval, the event will then automatically appear on the race calendar, which we hope will be the one stop shop for runners in the UK.
There are currently nearly 900 fixtures for 2009 on our calendar so we hope you will find yours there and if not please add it to the schedule.
Research has shown us that the average length of time that a race applies for a UKA licence is 5-6 weeks, so in order to attract the biggest possible field to your event, we urge you to apply for your licence in good time in the future.
5. In the next 10 days we will be launching the cheapest online entry system on the market place which will only be made available to races who take out a UKA Race Licence.
In order to demonstrate this system and the online licensing system to you, we would like to invite you to visit our stand (number 140) at the Flora London Marathon Expo next week from Wednesday 22nd to Saturday 25th of April.
6. As part of the website offering, there is an opportunity for runners who are not active members of “athletics and running” clubs to become individual members of “realbuzzrunbritain Running Club”
This virtual club is not a competitor or threat to the traditional athletics/running clubs, but rather an attempt to address the fact that over 80% of runners in road races do not have any belonging to the sport and we hope that this inexpensive and time-friendly method can help reverse this trend and make the sport stronger.
Their membership will costs £12.95 and includes a number of benefits including a £2 entry fee discount, significant discounts in Sweatshop stores nationally and significant savings with the Intercontinental Hotel group among others.
In order to reach as many runners in the sport, and to fulfil the new obligations of receiving a UKA license, we would like to discuss with you how we can let your database of runners know about the launch of our new website and the Membership benefits.
There are a number of possible ways this cooperation can occur:
a) A button/logo on your homepage which would link to the www.realbuzzrunbritain.com website (See London Marathon website http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/ and Bath Half Marathon website http://www.runninghigh.co.uk/ for how this might look on your site)
A choice of logos is available to download on the homepage of the RDP section of the website http://www.realbuzzrunbritain.com/rdp/
b) An e mail to your database alerting them to the new website. (We are happy to provide the text for this e mail.)
c) In the event that your event does not have a website, a link or the logo of www.realbuzzrunbritain.com on your promotional material, entry forms etc.
In conclusion, I would like to thank you for your cooperation and wish you every success with your event.
If possible, I look forward to meeting you at our stand at the Flora London Marathon Expo next week.
If you have any questions or comments in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me.
